The last time I wasn't in love was 40 years ago when I fell in love for the first, and last, time. I'm still in love. Ups and downs? Of course. Regrets? Sure. Compromises? Plenty. But would I undo it if I could? Not a chance.

"Have you ever been in love?"
by compound complex inhorrible isn't it?
it makes you so vulnerable.
it opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.

What's Your Favourite Way to Treat a Bad Cold?
by lifelong humanist ini've been suffering from a really bad cold, with flu-type symptoms, for almost a week now.
very unusual for me.. it couldn't have come at a worse time, as i've just started working as a self-employed person, working outdoors in all weathers.
no sick pay, so no money coming in.. i expect that i'll be ok for monday, though.. i'm right in the middle of making a homemade lamb curry.

In that case, Satanus, I might recommend St-Germain liqueur, made in France from hand-picked elder flowers. I have a bottle of it in my bar. By itself or mixed with a little blended scotch, it is a unique taste experience. If it wards off colds, so much the better.

Switch the JWs over to internet versions of the WT and Awake
It would be a complete 180 from their current strategy, moshe. The WTS has just spent tens of millions installing new, German high-speed printing presses in the Georgetown Bethel. This is a big deal. They've got the presses up to 100,000 impressions per hour, which is right up there with the very best pressrooms in the world. The WTS has been seeking to differentiate itself from the rest of the world since its inception 150 years ago. The WTS regards the internet as an evil, wild place. Its own internet presense is minimal and regarded as necessary to reach those who would otherwise not be reachable. But books and magazines are tangible things. There is nothing like the comfort of holding the Holy Bible in your hands and feeling its pages. It's part of the schtick. If the WTS remains the only religious organisation that is not using the internet to get to people, it will be cited as yet another indication that it is God's chosen organisation.

I agree. I think our friend Farkel has a low tolerance for incompetent thinking, and he takes it to an extreme. He's running out of time, just like the rest of us, but he understands it better than we do and his sense of urgency is different. Crotchety old blister for sure.

Starting Jan 1st 2012 we will no longer focus on gathering in new sheep. Our focus will be on keeping the flock strong, united and ready for the great day of Armegedon. We know Jehovah's day is near and we need to gear up and prepare for the Great Tribulation. The time is now and we have little time to help others see the truth and save them from sure death....
And then the end of the WTS will be in sight. Not going to happen unless the GB is a bunch of blithering fools.

If I remember correctly, possibly not, Hawkings believed the universe was slowing down. Something which today has been disproven. Either way, things change. "New light" is not something limited to the JWs alone. Science is always moving forward and much of what is believed today will likely be disproved tomorrow.
You're half right. It was Friedmann who postulated that the universe was expanding sufficiently slowly that at some point or another gravitational attraction would take over causing the expansion to stop and bringing about a gradual collapse of the universe back into a singularity. And then, of course, the Big Bang would happen again and start the whole process all over again. Interesting theory, but Hawking's take on it is much more interesting. And things (Truth) don't change. The understanding of things changes. The difference between "New Light" and the evolution of scientific understanding is the former always comes on when something turns out not to be the Truth after all, and the latter when an exception to an established theory is found and proven. There is a world of difference between the two and they cannot, in all rationality, be equated.

If there is a God he I would think views time in the same way.
Not possible, unless you dismiss relativity theory.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about relativity and time, and your original question.
